Leroy Blyden Jr. pours in game-high 22 points and Sonny Wilson adds 21
ATHENS, Ohio — Freshman Leroy Blyden Jr. scored a game-high 22 points and junior Sonny Wilson added 21 to lead the Toledo men's basketball team to a 79–67 road win over Ohio on Saturday afternoon before 6,404 fans in The Convo.
The Rockets (16-13, 10-6 MAC) built a double-digit first-half lead and never trailed en route to their third straight overall victory and 11th consecutive win in their series vs. the Bobcats (15-14, 9-7 MAC). In addition, the victory secured a No. 4 or No. 5 seed in the 2026 Mid-American Conference Tournament on March 12-14 at Rocket Arena in Cleveland, Ohio.
Blyden also grabbed a season-high nine boards and dished out three assists, while Wilson hauled down seven rebounds. Junior Austin Parks notched his third double-double of the season as well, with 11 points and 11 boards to help UT register a 45-36 advantage on the glass.
Toledo's defense set the tone early, holding Ohio to just 29.7% shooting in the first half to take a 41-28 advantage after 20 minutes. The Bobcats cut their deficit to two midway through the second stanza, but sophomore Mynor Strong's triple at the 8:22 mark ignited a 10-1 spurt that put the Rockets in front, 65-55.
Ohio then closed within 67-61 with 4:08 remaining, but Blyden's tip-in, Parks' dunk and Wilson's two free throws gave Toledo a 73-61 cushion with 2:20 to play.
QUOTING HEAD COACH TOD KOWALCZYK
"It was a gutty win for us, and we just keep getting better. We played really well in the first half and could have had a bigger lead if we had finished around the basket. Our guards came up with some big plays down the stretch when we needed them too. That's what you need to win games on the road late in the season."
