Rockets and Bobcats are tied for fourth place in MAC standings
TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo men's basketball team (15-13, 9-6 MAC) will play the first of back-to-back road games when it travels to Athens, Ohio on Saturday, Feb. 28 to face Ohio (15-13, 9-6 MAC). Tip-off time for the matchup is set for 4:00 p.m. with streaming on ESPN+.
The Rockets and Bobcats are tied for fourth place in the Mid-American Conference with three games remaining in the regular season and could potentially meet in the MAC Tournament quarterfinals for a second-straight year.
Toledo posted a 101-85 victory over the Bobcats in Savage Arena on Jan. 13. The Rockets shot a blistering 61.9% from the field to extend their winning streak to 10 in a row in their series vs. Ohio. Sonny Wilson and Leroy Blyden Jr. topped UT offensively with 25 and 24 points, respectively. Sean Craig (15 pts., 10 reb.) and Austin Parks (13 pts., 5 reb.) controlled the paint and helped the Rockets register a 33-27 advantage on the boards.
Toledo fell behind 22-9 less than six minutes into the game before rallying to take a 52-50 halftime lead. Wilson ignited the Rockets in the second half with two quick baskets and hitting a three-pointer that gave UT a double-digit lead, 65-54, at the 17:08 mark. Toledo's lead didn't drop below 11 the rest of the evening.
The Rockets clinched a berth in the 2026 MAC Tournament on Tuesday with a 79–69 home victory over Northern Illinois. Wilson led the way with 17 points and was joined in double figures by Parks (14 pts.), Mynor Strong (14 pts.), Blyden (12 pts.) and Craig. Blyden and Craig also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds, with Wilson's seven assists helping orchestrate an offense that posted 21 assists on 30 made field goals.
Parks also added six rebounds, four assists and four blocks to register one of his most complete performances of the season.
The Rockets are led by the backcourt duo of Wilson (17.2 ppg) and Blyden (15.7 ppg) along with the frontcourt tandem of Craig (12.0 ppg) and Parks (11.2 ppg). Blyden leads all MAC freshmen with 15.7 ppg, while Wilson is dishing out a team-high 4.6 apg. Parks ranks in the Top Five of the MAC with a team-high 61.6 FG% and 1.5 bpg, while Craig is tied for fourth with a team-best 7.4 rpg.
Ohio has been idle since posting a 74-66 victory at Northern Illinois last Saturday. Senior Jackson Paveletzke ranks eighth in the MAC with 16.7 ppg and third with 5.3 apg. Senior Aiden Hadaway is averaging 14.0 ppg and a team-high 7.4 rpg.
