TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's basketball team stayed close with Ohio throughout, but could not overcome the Bobcats in the late stages in a 71-67 decision at Savage Arena on Tuesday night.
Â
After an even first quarter, the Rockets (12-10, 6-5 MAC) fell behind at halftime, 37-29, as the Bobcats (14-9, 8-4 MAC) took the second quarter, 16-8. Toledo made a run in the third quarter, cutting the deficit to 53-51 with 10 minutes to go. However, the Rockets could not tie or take the lead in the fourth, despite getting as close as four. Â
Â
The Rockets held the rebounding advantage, 47-27, but could not overcome a 25-15 turnover disadvantage on the evening. The Bobcats also had an 11-8 advantage in three-pointers made and an 18-11 edge in free throws made.
Â
Quoting Head Coach Ginny Boggess
"We knew Ohio was going to come out firing. They were everything we thought they could be tonight and more. Allowing them to get 11 threes and 29 free throw attempts put a tremendous amount of pressure on our offense. There's a reason they lead the league in as many stats as they do. Credit to Ohio's players – they made some really great plays and made it tough on us defensively."
