TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's basketball program will hold its annual tip-off dinner on Tuesday, Oct. 14 in the Student Union, featuring former WNBA player and Women's Basketball Hall of Fame inductee Michelle Edwards as its keynote speaker.
"As a Hall of Famer and trailblazer in our sport, Michelle's journey embodies excellence, perseverance and leadership at every level," said Head Coach Ginny Boggess. "We are thrilled to welcome her as our keynote speaker for the tipoff dinner. I have no doubt her story will resonate with and inspire our players, alumni and fans as we celebrate the impact and importance of our game in the city of Toledo."
All attendees will receive dinner and the chance to win prizes along with auctions throughout the evening, and a chance to greet and interact with the players and coaching staff. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6:30. The dinner will celebrate the beginning of the 2025-26 season, which tips off on Nov. 3.
The event will cost $60 for individuals, $110 for couples and $10 for children 10 and under. Attendees can also purchase an eight-person "victory table" for $550 or an MVP table for $1,050. The MVP table includes a photo with Boggess and Edwards. Parking will be available for free in Area 10.
Edwards has spent over 40 years as a player, coach and representative for college and professional women's basketball. She spent her collegiate years at Iowa from 1984-1988, where she was the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Player of the Year, an All-American, the Big Ten Player of the Year and a three-time All-Big Ten selection. She helped Iowa to eight-straight No. 1 national weekly rankings and had her #30 jersey retired by Iowa.
Following her college career, Edwards played professionally in Italy for nine seasons, before returning to the U.S. to play in the WNBA, where she was the second player allocated to the Cleveland Rockers among 16 top players for the league's inaugural season in 1997. She played five seasons in the WNBA for Cleveland and the Seattle Storm. She was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2014.
After retiring from playing, Edwards has stayed involved in basketball through coaching, including as an assistant coach for Rutgers and UCF, as part of the WBCA Board of Directors, as a mentor and through working with companies affiliated with women's basketball. The Boston native holds a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies from Iowa and a Master's in Management and Labor Relations from Rutgers.
