Toledo shoots its best round of tournament today
TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo women's golf team posted its best round of the tournament in Tuesday's final round to finish with a team score of 938 at the Inverness Intercollegiate. The Rockets shot an 18-over par 302 today on the par-71, 6,421-yard Inverness Club layout to finish in 11th place.
"We improved throughout tournament and that's what I'm looking for," first-year head coach Ali Green said. "Three different individuals led us each round on what was probably the toughest golf course we will play all year. We're extremely thankful for the opportunity to host our tournament at a world-class course like Inverness."
Sophomore Brooklyn Millard tied for 23rd place to lead the Rockets at 16-over par 229 (82-71-76). Sophomore Valeria Lizcano (T-40th/233) produced UT's second-best showing.
Sophomore Rachel Mackinlay paced the Rockets in the final round with a two-over par 73. She played the front nine at even-par before registering seven pars and two bogeys on the back nine to finish at two-over par.
Freshman Alice Tonts also notched her best round of the tournament with a four-over par 75 and played her first 10 holes at one-over par.
No. 15 Ohio State won the tournament at 34-over par, three shots in front of No. 13 Florida and five ahead of Princeton.
Toledo will return to action in three weeks when it hosts the Rocket Classic on Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 6-7 at the Catawba Island Club in Port Clinton, Ohio
