TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's basketball team has named Sydney Brown to the staff as the program's director of operations, Head Coach
Ginny Boggess announced on Friday.
In her role, Brown will take on the day-to-day operations including but not limited to: scheduling, organizing and managing practices, coordinating travel and meals, budgeting, team and community events, providing in-game assistance for the coaching staff, player development and scouting, and assisting with managing availability for coaches and players.
"Sydney is the perfect addition and gives me the opportunity to reshape some of our staff responsibilities," said Boggess. "She'll be involved in traditional operation duties, but will also give support in player development, scouting and recruiting. She brings a championship pedigree and high-level experience to the table. In addition to having all of the tools to help take our program to the next level, she has a joy about her and a contagious love for the game. I am excited to welcome Sydney and Justin to the Rocket family."
Brown was most recently a graduate assistant at Clemson for two seasons. With the Tigers, she assisted with opponent scouting, recruit visits, event planning and execution, workouts, and recruiting male practice squad players.
"I am incredibly thrilled to join the University of Toledo where women's basketball has such a rich history of success," said Brown. "Coach Boggess' heart to compete at the highest level in all aspects of life proves her elite ability as a leader. What has meant the most to me is even before stepping foot on campus, I felt immediately welcomed and embraced by both her and her staff as family. This crew deeply cares for their athletes on a holistic level. I'm honored to serve alongside such incredible humans and be a part of this elite Rocket community!"
As a player, Brown spent a five-season college career at Westmont College in California from 2018-2023. In the 2020-21 season, she led the Warriors to the NAIA national championship, the second in program history. Westmont finished the season on a 15-game winning streak en route to the title. She was an All-GSAC (Golden State Athletic Conference) pick, an NAIA and GSAC Scholar-Athlete and the only four-time team captain in program history. Brown ranked third in program history in career rebounds (849) and rebound average (7.9) and fifth in career blocks (73) at the end of her playing career.
While playing at Westmont, Brown was an assistant coach for the Salem Academy High School (Oregon) varsity boys team in 2021 and did a coaching internship with Westmont. Salem Academy won the state title during Brown's season as a high school assistant.
Brown was also selected to the 2023 WBCA 'So You Want to be A Coach' class, a program which gives senior women's basketball student-athletes necessary education, training and networking skills to pursue a career in coaching.
A native of Turner, Ore., Brown graduated from Westmont with a degree in sport psychology. She recently received her Master's degree from Clemson in athletic leadership.
