Annika Munson clinches match point to secure Rockets' fifth-straight win
TOLEDO, Ohio – Freshman Annika Munson clinched match point on the No. 5 singles court to help the Toledo women's tennis team defeat Buffalo, 4-3, on Friday afternoon at the UT Varsity Tennis Courts. This marks the fifth-straight victory for the Rockets and their longest win streak of the season.
Toledo (14-6, 7-3 MAC) clinched the doubles point and took a 1-0 lead after earning a 6-1 win on the No. 3 court from Munson and Jone Ibanez and a 6-2 victory on the No. 2 court from Audrey Moutama and Gaby Rondon. Buffalo (18-7, 5-5 MAC) evened the score, 1-1, after earning a straight set win on the No. 6 singles court.
Freshman Jacklynka Scholten tallied a three-set victory, 3-6, 7-5, 6-1, on the No. 2 court to regain the lead. Scholten owns a perfect 17-0 in singles play during her first year as a Rocket.
The Bulls took a 3-2 lead after earning wins on the No. 3 and No. 1 courts, respectively. Ibanez rattled off a three-set victory on the No. 5 court to tie the match, 3-3. Munson clinched match point with a three-set 6-4, 6-7 (2-7), 6-1 win. The freshman has now amassed an 11-6 overall record during dual play.
Defending Mid-American Conference Champion Toledo will host the 2025 conference tournament on Thursday-Friday, April 24-25 at the UT Varsity Tennis Courts. The Rockets are locked into the No. 3 seed and will face No. 2-seeded Northern Illinois on Thursday at 2:00 p.m.
