MUNCIE, Ind. – The Toledo softball team dropped the first game of a scheduled doubleheader, 13-8, to Ball State on Friday afternoon in Muncie, Ind. The second game of the doubleheader was tied 14-14 in the eighth inning when it was suspended due to darkness. That game will resume tomorrow at 1:00 p.m. with the series finale following approximately 30 minutes afterward.
Toledo (6-17, 1-3 MAC) tallied 12 hits in the first game, its fourth consecutive game with double-figure hits and the eighth game this season tallying over 10-plus hits. Seven Rockets recorded hits, with
Payton Abiley leading the way with three safeties, tying her career-high. Sophomore
Eliza Maloney crushed a three-run homer to center, marking the first home run of her career.
The Rockets took an early lead in the first inning thanks to an obstruction call and a two-RBI single from
Maris Barbato. Toledo and Ball State traded runs throughout the game until the Cardinals put the game away with six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Rockets loaded the bases in the top of the seventh but were unable to score.

How It Happened
- Toledo took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning behind an obstruction call and a two-RBI single from Maris Barbato. Ball State got within one with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first, 3-2.
- Ball State used a solo home run in the third to take a 4-3 lead.
- Eliza Maloney crushed a three-run homer to center field to retake the lead, 6-5, in the fifth. Ball State responded with a two-run home run in the bottom of the frame to go in front, 7-6.
- Audrey Miller and Barbato had RBI singles in the sixth to take back the lead, 8-7. Ball State fired off six runs in the sixth to secure the win.
