Rockets Take Down Providence, 11-3

Sidney Griffith and Eli Enriquez combine for seven hits to lead the Rockets’ offense

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Sidney Griffith and Eli Enriquez combined for seven hits and six runs at the top of the order to lead the Toledo softball team to an 11-3 win over Providence in five innings on Sunday to conclude the Gamecock Invitational in Columbia, S.C.

Batting in the No. 2 spot, Griffith went 4-for-4 with four RBIs, three runs score and  two stolen bases. Enriquez, the leadoff hitter, was 3-for-4 with three runs scored, an RBI and two stolen bases.

The Rockets banged out 13 hits overall, with Eliza Maloney, Madison McKay and Audrey Miller each collected two hits. Samantha Bolding knocked in three runs with three sacrifice flies. 

Senior Sophia Knight (2-0) got the victory for the Rockets, giving up three runs on four hits in four innings of work. Senior Kylee Graham pitched one scoreless inning in relief.

"This team is special. Really proud of the composure they displayed from start to finish in every aspect. During the highs and lows they remained confident and in control of what they could. We've talked a lot this year about what it means and looks like for us to compete and we saw that all weekend. They worked together and picked each other up, which is what a great team does. Our pitchers dominated, the defense was lights out, and our offense finished the weekend on a high note. Excited to get back out on the field next weekend in Greensboro."

ROCKET NOTES
  • Toledo scored 10 of its 11 runs in the final three innings of the game. The Rockets had five runs on five hits in the third frame.
  • The Rockets recorded seven stolen bases on Sunday, tying the team record for stolen bases in a game. The last time this happened was at Bowling Green on March 23, 2024.
  • Freshman Samantha Bolding owns a team-high seven RBIs through the first weekend of play.
UP NEXT
Toledo heads to the Spiro Classic in Greensboro, N.C. on Feb. 13-15. The Rockets will face Merrimack, Georgetown and UNC-Greensboro throughout the weekend.
