Toledo to Face Ball State Tuesday Night in First of Two Home Games This Week

Rockets looking to build momentum for MAC Tournament in March

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo men's basketball team (15-10, 8-4 MAC) will play two home games this week beginning with a matchup vs. Ball State (13-12, 6-6 MAC) on Tuesday, Feb. 18 in Savage Arena.  The contest will tip off at 7:00 p.m. with streaming on ESPN+. The Rockets posted a 93-75 victory over the Cardinals in Muncie on Jan. 18.
       
Toledo is currently in third place in the Mid-American Conference standings, trailing first-place Akron (20-5, 12-0) and second-place Miami (19-6, 10-2).

Tip-Off: 7:00 p.m.
Location: Toledo, Ohio.
Arena: Savage Arena (7,014).
Streaming: ESPN+. Mason Lowry will provide play-by-play for broadcast with Rhett Boyd serving as analyst.
Radio: Rocket Radio Network. WSPD (1370 AM) in Toledo. Mark Beier will provide play-by-play for broadcast with Jay Lehman serving as analyst.
 
SERIES
Toledo leads 56-50. UT has won eight of its last 12 meetings vs. Ball State after dropping five in a row to the Cardinals. Toledo has won four of its last five matchups vs. Ball State in Savage Arena.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Rockets rallied late but came up short in Saturday's 80-73 defeat at Eastern Michigan. UT trailed the Eagles by as many as 13 points in the first half but reduced its deficit to three with six minutes to play. EMU thwarted several other UT comeback bids down the stretch to pull out the win and end its eight-game losing streak against the Rockets.

Isaiah Adams scored all of his 13 points in the second half to lead five Rockets in double figures. Sam Lewis added 12 points, with Bryce Ford, Seth Hubbard and Sonny Wilson each contributing 10 points.
       
ROCKETS' LEADERS
Wilson and Lewis are leading Toledo with 15.7 and 15.4 ppg, respectively. Javan Simmons is averaging 11.6 ppg and a team-high 6.6 rpg, while Isaiah Adams checks in with 10.9 ppg. Lewis and Simmons lead the MAC with a 46.3 3PTFG% and 2.9 offensive RPG, respectively. Lewis tied his career high with 21 points and Adams poured in a season-high 20 points in the Rockets' first meeting against Ball State.
 
ABOUT BALL STATE
Ball State has won three straight games at home since dropping an 81-73 decision at Akron on Feb. 4. Junior Jermahri Hill ranks fifth in the MAC with 15.9 ppg, while senior Payton Sparks ranks second with 7.7 rpg and a 61.6 FG%. Mickey Pearson Jr. is also scoring in double digits for BSU with 12.4 ppg and has a team-high 85.0 FT%.
 
POST TOUCHES
•  The Rockets lead the MAC in attendance at 4,182 fans per game and will play four of their final six games at home.
•  Toledo ranks first in the MAC in league play with a 78.3 FT% after shooting 69.0% at the charity stripe in its non-conference schedule.
•  Toledo has committed 10 or less turnovers in six straight games and is averaging 7.5 miscues during this stretch. UT is tied for 11th nationally at 9.4 turnovers per game.
•  Sophomore Sonny Wilson earned a spot on the MAC All-Freshman Team last year and ranks sixth in the MAC with a team-high 15.7 ppg. He leads MAC guards and ranks eighth in the MAC overall with a 52.4 FG%.
•  Sophomore Sam Lewis ranks ninth in the MAC with 15.4 ppg and has a team-high six 20-point outings this season, including three in his last five games. 
•  Sophomore Bryce Ford leads the MAC in league play with a 92.9 FT% and is tied for seventh overall with a 40.3 3PTFG%. Ford has scored in double digits in six consecutive conference contests.
•  Freshman Jaylan Ouwinga tied his MAC season high with seven points vs. EMU and tied his overall season best with five rebounds.
 
PROTECTING THE BASKETBALL
•   Toledo ranks among the national leaders in fewest turnovers per game, averaging a MAC-best 9.4 miscues per game.
•   The Rockets are tied for 11th nationally, with Ole Miss ranking first at 8.8.
•   UT committed a season-low three miscues vs. James Madison (Feb. 8) as well as five or less turnovers in four other games.
 
ON THE HORIZON
Toledo will host arch-rival Bowling Green (10-15, 4-8 MAC) in the second installment of the Battle of I-75 this season on Friday, Feb. 21 at 6:00 p.m. on the CBS Sports Network.
