Toledo to face Western Michigan in MAC Opener for second-straight season
TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo men's basketball team will open its Mid-American Conference season when it hosts Western Michigan (6-7, 0-1 MAC) on Tuesday, Dec. 30. Tip-off time from Savage Arena is set for 6:30 p.m. with streaming on ESPN+.
The Rockets (6-6, 0-0 MAC) are coming off a 10-day break since their last action in a 100-67 home triumph over Lourdes University. UT produced one of its most efficient offensive performances of the season, shooting 58.3% from the field and assisting on 29-of-42 made baskets.
Five Rockets scored in double figures against the Gray Wolves as Toledo controlled the game from start to finish. Leroy Blyden Jr. led the way with 20 points on 8-of-11 shooting, including three three-pointers. Sonny Wilson orchestrated the offense with 17 points, a career-high eight assists, and zero turnovers in 28 minutes. Kyler Vanderjagt added 13 points and knocked down three triples. Sean Craig posted an 11-point, 11-rebound double-double, and Jaylan Ouwinga provided a boost off the bench with 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting.

Western Michigan dropped an 88-71 home decision to Buffalo in its MAC opener on Dec. 20. The Broncos are 5-2 at home and 1-5 on the road.
Jalen Griffith leads WMU with 16.0 ppg, 4.7 apg, and 1.4 spg. Jayden Brewer is the only other Bronco scoring in double digits with 13.5 ppg to go along with a team-best 7.2 rpg.
