Toledo Grabs Wins Over Saint Francis and Merrimack at Spiro Classic

The squad combined to score 23 runs and 18 hits on Friday

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior Kylee Graham pitched a shutout against Merrimack on Friday afternoon as the Toledo softball team grabbed two wins to open the Spiro Classic in Greensboro, N.C. The Rockets (5-1) defeated Saint Francis, 10-4, and followed with a 13-0 victory over Merrimack.

Graham (2-1) struck out a season-high five batters and allowed only three hits en route to the 13-0 victory. Senior Sophia Knight (3-0) picked up a win over Saint Francis, striking out six batters and allowing one hit in 4.1 innings in relief. Sophomore Mady Yackee made her first appearance of the season, throwing 2.0 innings with one run on four hits against Saint Francis.

The Rockets combined to tally 18 hits and scored 23 runs in the two games. Madison McKay had two doubles and notched her first career multi-RBI game. Shortstop Eli Enriquez, second baseman Sidney Griffith and third baseman Payton Abiley all recorded three hits on the day. Enriquez added four total stolen bases, moving her career total to 41 which is tied for eighth all-time in program history.

ROCKET NOTES
  • In the first game, Saint Francis took a 3-1 lead in the first inning. The Rockets tallied three runs in the third inning to take the first lead of the day and never looked back. The team recorded at least one run in each of the final four innings of the game.
  • Sidney Griffith went 2-for-3 against the Red Flash, scoring three runs, stealing two bases and knocking in an RBI.
  • To start its second matchup, Toledo took a quick 3-0 lead against Merrimack in the first inning as freshman Samantha Bolding launched her first career home run with a solo shot to left.
  • A two-run homer to left from Jenna Bloomfield extended the Rockets' lead in the third inning, 5-0.
  • The Rockets then scored eight runs on five hits in the fifth to put the game away.
  • 10 Rockets recorded hits in the 13-0 win over Merrimack.
UP NEXT
Toledo will play two games on Saturday, Feb. 15. The Rockets will take on Merrimack at 11:00 a.m. and Saint Francis at 1:00 p.m. in Greensboro, N.C.
