Rockets to open December with home game before playing next three games on road
TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo men's basketball team (4-3) opens the month of December with a matchup against Central State (3-2, 2-1 SIAC) on Monday, Dec. 1 in Savage Arena. Tip-off time is set for 6:30 p.m. with streaming on ESPN+. Head Coach Tod Kowalczyk will be honored prior to the contest for winning his 300th game as the Rockets' coach in last Monday's 75-68 victory over Troy.
The Rockets are looking to bounce back from last Wednesday's 87-72 setback in the championship game of the Royal Palms Division of the Geico Coconut Hoops event in Fort Myers, Fla. The defeat snapped UT's four-game winning streak.
Four Rockets scored in double figures against the Bruins in a game that featured 12 ties and nine lead changes and was tied at 61-61 with 10:12 remaining. Belmont gained control with a 9-0 run though, and the Rockets couldn't come closer than seven points the rest of the way. The Rockets forced 20 Belmont turnovers, but the Bruins held a 39-21 advantage on the boards.
Sean Craig led Toledo with 17 points, while Austin Parks added 15 points and a team-high five rebounds. Leroy Blyden Jr. chipped in 14 points, and Sonny Wilson scored 13 for the Rockets.
Wilson is leading the Rockets with a career-high 16.1 ppg, while Craig and Blyden are second and third in team scoring at 14.9 and 14.4 ppg, respectively. Craig leads UT with 9.0 rpg, with Blyden setting the pace with 5.4 apg and 2.4 spg.
Central State is coming off a 101-80 setback at Duquesne last Monday. The Marauders are coached by former Eastern MIchigan basketball and football player Travis Lewis. He also coached the St. Francis de Sales' boys basketball team for eight years.Â
