Rockets Go Wire-to-Wire for 66-52 Victory Against Detroit Mercy

Faith Fedd-Robinson ties career high with 17 points and defense secures 15 steals

TOLEDO, Ohio. – The Toledo women's basketball team never trailed to earn its first victory of the season in a 66-52 win over Detroit Mercy in front of 3,685 fans at Savage Arena on Sunday.

The Rockets (1-2) quickly jumped out to a double-digit lead in the opening five minutes and held a 12-point advantage at halftime. The Titans (1-1) stayed within striking distance, but did not come closer than seven in the second half. A 9-1 run at the end of the third quarter put Toledo up double digits for good.

Toledo's defense forced 22 turnovers and came up with 15 steals on the afternoon. The Rockets out-rebounded the Titans, 27-23 and won the turnover battle, 22-14.

Quoting Head Coach Ginny Boggess
"We knew this was going to be a full 40-minute battle with a really good team in Detroit Mercy coming in. Defensively, we did a good job in that second quarter. Any time you hold a team to a single-digit quarter, it's a great job. I'd like to improve with limiting our fouls and executing a little bit better down the stretch. Kelly Savage and I talk about respecting the lead all the time. Really proud of our effort, great crowd today, and we're watching these young players grow up right before our very eyes."
