Savage broke many school records and was a three-time All-MAC selection at Toledo
TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo women's basketball alumna and UT Athletics Hall of Famer Kelly Savage will be inducted into the Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2027.
Â
Coming out of Toledo's Notre Dame Academy, Savage played at Toledo from 1986-1990, which saw a jump from 13 total wins across Toledo's two seasons before her arrival to 25 wins in both the 1988-1989 and 1989-1990 seasons. Toledo reached the WNIT semifinals in 1989 and was the WNIT runner up in 1990.
Â
"I am truly blessed to be a part of this prestigious class and the esteemed Ohio Basketball Hall of Fame," said Savage. "My love for the game was profound, and many life lessons came from so many ups and downs and wins and losses. This particular accolade is humbling, because it comes knowing full well that many people share this with me. This induction happened because of my amazing family, friends, coaches, teammates, and of course, all Toledo Rockets fans. This entire group is being inducted, not just me."
Â
Savage was the MAC Freshman of the Year in 1987 before becoming a three-time All-MAC selection, with a second-team nod in 1988 and first-team distinctions in 1989 and 1990. She was also named to the WNIT All-Tournament Team in 1989 and 1990.
Â
By the end of her playing career, Savage held many UT school records, including career points (1,677) three-pointers made (273), free throws made (390), assists (640) and minutes played (3,700). Her 273 career three-pointers made are still the most in program history, and her 96 three-pointers made in 1988-1989 are still tied for the most in a single season. She led the Rockets in scoring in her final three seasons in the Midnight Blue and Gold.
Â
After graduating from Toledo with a degree in marketing in 1991, Savage has worked as a financial advisor at Savage & Associates, the company in which her father John, the namesake of Savage Arena, founded. She remains active in supporting the Rockets' women's basketball program and is on Toledo's Athletic Committee.
Â
The Toledo native was inducted into the Toledo Athletics Hall of Fame in 1997. She is also part of the Notre Dame Academy and Toledo City League Halls of Fame.
