Joad Martinho Qualifies for NCAA National Championship as Rockets Earn Program-Best Seventh-Place Finish at Great Lakes Regional Championship

Toledo sends an individual qualifier to the NCAA National Championship for second-straight season
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Junior Joad Martinho became an individual qualifier to the NCAA Men's Cross Country Championships with a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championship in Evansville, Ind. on Friday.
Martinho recorded a career-best time of 29:50.85 to earn individual qualification to the national championship race. He is just the fifth Rocket in program history to qualify for the NCAA Men's Cross Country Championship. This marks the second-straight season that the Toledo men's cross country squad has sent an individual to the NCAA race, as Dominic Serem represented the Rockets in 2024.
As a team, the Rockets placed seventh overall, marking the best finish in program history at the regional championship. Toledo finished ahead of all other Mid-American Conference schools as well as Purdue, Ohio State and Indiana. Â
Sibonelo Khumalo recorded a final mark of 30:46.90 to place 30th while Peter McMahon (39th/31:06.16), Loann Brelivet (59th/31:47.55) and Max Matolin (82nd/32:18.52) rounded out the scoring.
Along with his individual qualification to the National Championship, Martinho also took home All-Region honors.
