Rockets have finished in first or second in conference race five straight years
TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo men's cross country team is shooting for its third consecutive Mid-American Conference championship on Friday, Oct. 30. The 8k championship race is scheduled to begin at noon at the Prairies Golf Course in Kalamazoo, Mich.
The Rockets have finished in either first or second place the last five years, with their MAC titles in 2024 and 2025 giving the program their first conference crowns in program history.
In the latest USTFCCCA (United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association) regional rankings, Toledo is the highest-ranked MAC program in the Great Lakes Region. UT's No. 6 regional ranking is its highest ever with the only other schools ranked being Miami (No. 9) and Eastern Michigan (No. 12).
The Rockets return all seven student-athletes who competed in last year's MAC Championship, including senior and individual champion Joad Martinho. Martinho was joined on the First-Team All-MAC squad by senior Peter McMahon, who placed sixth last year. Second Team All-MAC honorees Loann Brelivet and Sibonelo Khumalo finished in 10th and 11th place, respectively, last year.
Freshman Eloshas Kipkirui and junior transfer Patrick Kiprop are expected to be key contributors for the Rockets in this year's MAC meet.
Martinho has been leading the Rockets this season, recording a pair of top-ten finishes against national-level competition to earn MAC Men's Runner of the Week accolades twice. He placed ninth (23:25.6) at the Under Armour Pre-National Invitational and 10th (23:58.4) at Indiana State's John McNichols Invitational.
Toledo's top finish as a team this season was an eighth-place showing at the Under Armour Pre-National Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind. on Oct. 16.
