Toledo is the first MAC school to reach 900 victories in women's basketball

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's basketball team took control early to secure the program's 900th all-time win in a 70-59 Mid-American Conference victory against Kent State at Savage Arena on Wednesday night.

The milestone victory also made Toledo the first MAC school to reach 900 all-time victories in women's basketball.

The Rockets (10-3, 2-1 MAC), built up a 12-point lead by the end of the first quarter, extending the advantage to as much as 20 in the second half to send the Golden Flashes (9-6, 2-1 MAC) to their first conference defeat.

"Everything starts for us on the defensive end," said Head Coach Ginny Boggess. "The MAC is a very high-scoring league and a high-powered league. When we come out with the defensive focus and intensity to execute the scout that we had tonight, then we put ourselves in a really good position. We were locked in against a very good team, and we played like it for the full 40 minutes."

The Rockets were led by graduate student Khera Goss with 12 points on 5-of-9 from the field. Senior Jessica Cook added 11 for her third game in double figures in her last four contests. Freshman Destiny Robinson set a new season high with 10 points. Sophomore Kendall Carruthers led on the assist board with four helpers while Robinson and freshman Evalyse Cole added three apiece.

Robinson also set a new season high with nine rebounds, putting her just one away from a double-double. Freshman Faith Fedd-Robinson added six boards to go with two blocks. Cook came up with three steals while Robinson added two.

First Quarter – Toledo 22, Kent State 10

The Rockets jumped out to a 10-2 lead at the 5:23 mark, sparked by three-pointers from Destiny Robinson and Khera Goss.
Toledo then out-scored KSU 12-8 the rest of the quarter to make the game 22-10 at the break.
The Rockets shot 8-of-16 from the field including 5-of-10 from three-point range in the first 10 minutes. UT held Kent State to 4-of-11 from the floor and 0-for-2 from long range.

Second Quarter – Toledo 40, Kent State 23

Toledo opened the quarter with an 8-2 run to take a 30-12 lead at the 6:28 mark, its largest lead of the first half.
The Golden Flashes countered with an 11-6 spurt to cut the lead to 36-23 with 2:16 left in the half.
The Rockets ended the half with four consecutive free throws to take a 17-point lead into the locker room.
Toledo held Kent State to just 9-for-26 (34.6%) from the field in the first half.
Five Rockets had at least six points in the half, led by Destiny Robinson's eight.

Third Quarter – Toledo 57, Kent State 37

Kent State scored the first two points of the quarter to cut the lead to 40-25 but did not draw any closer than 15.
Nan Garcia and Ella Weaver each knocked down threes on back-to-back possessions to push Toledo's lead to 53-33 at the 1:52 mark, its biggest lead of the night.
Khera Goss led the Rockets with five points in the third period, while six different Rockets scored.

Fourth Quarter – Toledo 70, Kent State 59

Kent State started the final period with a 13-4 run capped off by a Journey Hildebrand three-pointer to cut the Rockets lead to 61-50 at 5:39.
Two buckets by Kendall Carruthers and one by Sammi Mikonowicz pushed Toledo's lead back to 16, 67-51 at the 2:51 mark.
Toledo shot 5-for-6 from the free throw line in the period.

Game Notes

The Rockets have held their opponent under 60 points in four-straight games for the first time since Dec. 30, 2023-Jan. 13, 2024, when the Rockets did so five consecutive times.
The Rockets held KSU to 11.1% (1-for-9) from three-point range, a Rocket opponent's fewest three-point makes and lowest percentage of the season.
Robinson became the 10th Rocket to score in double figures this year.
Toledo has now won eight straight games against Kent State in the all-time series.
