TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's basketball team returns to Savage Arena for an important matchup early in Mid-American Conference play, taking on Kent State on Wednesday, Jan. 8. Tipoff will be at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
Wednesday's game pits the three-time defending regular-season champion Rockets against the defending MAC Tournament champion Golden Flashes.
The Rockets (9-3, 1-1 MAC) picked up its first MAC victory on Saturday, taking down Akron 74-54 at James A. Rhodes Arena. Toledo built up a 12-point lead at halftime and ballooned the advantage to as much as 27 in the fourth quarter. Sammi Mikonowicz led the way with 20 points on 7-of-11 from the field, while Faith Fedd-Robinson chipped in 17, scoring 16 in the first half on 6-of-7 from the field.
The Golden Flashes (9-5, 2-0 MAC) wrapped up an 82-73 victory against previously-undefeated Buffalo on Sunday. Kent State hit 29-of-33 free throws (87.9%) for the game, including 24-of-27 (88.9%) in the fourth quarter. Jenna Batsch led with 23 points on 8-of-14 from the field while Mya Babbitt added 19 points.
Toledo leads the all-time series 50-35 and has won seven-straight matchups. The Rockets are 24-13 all-time at home in the series.

Rockets Deliver Bounce-Back Effort Against Akron
- After suffering a one-point defeat against Northern Illinois, Toledo bounced back in a big way against Akron for its first MAC victory in the Ginny Boggess era.
- Sammi Mikonowicz's 20-point performance was her second 20-point game of the season (Navy, 27 points).
- The Rockets improved from 4-for-23 vs. NIU to 8-for-21 (38.0%) beyond the three-point arc, out-shooting Akron 38.0%-20.0% from distance.
