AMES, Iowa - The Toledo women's volleyball team fell in a closely played match to Wake Forest, 3-2 (25-21, 20-25, 25-19, 16-25, 10-15) on Saturday afternoon.
Toledo (3-3) had three players record double-figure kills. Taylor Alt led the offense, tallying 15 kills and 15 digs which marks her second double-double of the season and 37th of her career. Sierra Pertzborn set a new career-high with 10 kills while Izzy Granger added 11 kills and eight digs.
Avery Adamski had a team-high 18 digs while adding five assists and one service ace. Macy Hatkevich matched her career-high with three aces to go with 21 assists and eight digs. Ella Abraham totaled 14 assists, eight digs, three kills and two aces.
Olivia Heitkamp totaled seven kills and six digs, setting a new career-high in both. Heitkamp tallied four kills on five attempts with no errors for an .800 clip in the first set.
"The team fought hard today and I am proud of the volleyball we played," said head coach Jason Oliver. "We will learn from these tough matches this weekend and really put forth a great effort at home for our next matches. We are excited to get back into Savage Arena."
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET ONE (25-21 Toledo)
SET TWO (25-20 Wake Forest)
- After much back-and-forth between both sides, Wake Forest used a 4-1 surge to take a 12-9 lead.
- Two kills from Pertzborn and Granger helped get the Rockets within two, 16-14.
- The Demon Deacons got out to a 22-15 lead, but a block from Heitkamp and Anna Alford, followed by two aces from Macy Hatkevich cut into the lead, 22-19.
- Wake Forest took the set win off of a kill.
SET THREE (25-19 Toledo)
- Two consecutive blocks from Granger and Alford helped put Toledo ahead, 9-8.
- The Rockets used a 7-1 surge to take a four-point lead, 16-12.Â
- Terminations from Taylor Alt, Alford, Granger and Heitkamp helped the Rockets grab the third set and a 2-1 lead.
SET FOUR (25-16 Wake Forest)
- The Rockets took a 6-3 lead, thanks to a solo block and a kill from Alt.
- Wake Forest later responded with a 10-0 surge of their own to take a 15-9 lead.
- Three straight kills from Toledo cut Wake Forest's lead to four, 15-11.
- Four consecutive points got the Rockets within five, 21-16, but the Demon Deacons rattled off a 4-0 run of their own to tie the match at 2-2.
SET FIVE (15-10 Wake Forest)
- Toledo took a 3-1 lead behind Ella Abraham's second ace of the match and a block from Pertzborn and Alt.
- Four quick points from the Demon Deacons put them in front, 10-5.Â
- Alt tallied her 15th kill of the day to get the Rockets within three, 13-10.
- Wake Forest fired off two straight kills to take the match victory.

Toledo returns home to host the Rocket Invitational on Friday-Saturday, Sept. 13-14. The Rockets will host Eastern Washington and Northern Kentucky on Friday, Sept. 13Â with first serves set for 12:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., respectively.
