Toledo Wraps Up Non-Conference Play at Jackrabbit Invitational

Rockets set to play three matches in three days

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's volleyball team wraps up non-conference play at South Dakota State's Jackrabbit Invitational in Sioux Falls, S.D. on Sept. 19-21. The Rockets will take on Belmont, South Dakota State and Idaho State.

Toledo (6-3) will open the tournament against Belmont on Thursday, Sept. 19 at 5:00 p.m. ET. The team will then take on host South Dakota State on Friday, Sept. 20 at 8:00 p.m. and conclude the weekend against Idaho State on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 11:00 a.m. All three matches will be streamed on Midco Sports Plus.

ROCKET NOTES
  • Toledo swept the competition at the Rocket Invite on Sept. 13-14. The Rockets defeated Eastern Washington, Northern Kentucky and Marshall to move to a 6-3 overall record.
  • Izzy Granger earned MAC Offensive Player of the Week honors and was MVP of the Rocket Invite. Granger totaled 41 kills and 35 digs during the weekend and added five service aces. The junior outside hitter tallied a career-best .542 hitting percentage against Marshall.
  • Macy Hatkevich and Ella Abraham earned MAC Setters of the Week on Monday. Hatkevich was also named to the Rocket Invite All-Tournament Team. Together, Hatkevich and Abraham helped the Rockets total 163 kills on the weekend and averaged 11.2 assists per set.
  • Taylor Alt earned a nod to the Rocket Invite All-Tournament Team after averaging 4.36 kills per set with a .315 hitting percentage. During the tournament, Alt eclipsed 1,000 career digs.
  • Alt is second on the NCAA Division I Active Kills Leader board. She has collected 1,829 kills in her career and trails only Ohio State's Emily Londot (1,864).
SCOUTING THE BRUINS
  • Belmont comes into the weekend with a 5-4 record. The Bruins went 1-2 in their last tournament, splitting matches against Western Illinois and falling to North Dakota.
  • Brooke Gilleland leads the offense, averaging 3.52 kills per set while Lilly Lutz paces the defense with 5.24 digs per set.
  • This is the first-ever meeting between the Bruins and the Rockets.
SCOUTING THE JACKRABBITS
  • South Dakota State has an overall record of 8-0. The Jackrabbits defeated Eastern Illinois and Bradley in their last tournament action.
  • Sylvie Zgonc averages a team-best 5.16 kills per set. Four Jackrabbits average over 2.00 digs per set, with Zgonc leading the way at 2.90 digs per set.
  • Toledo leads the all-time series, 1-0. The lone matchup between the Jackrabbits and Rockets was a 3-2 Toledo win at Savage Arena on Sept. 10, 2021.
SCOUTING THE BENGALS
  • Idaho State enters the weekend with an overall record of 7-2, falling to only Portland and San Diego State.
  • Jamie Streit paces the offense with 117 kills, good for 3.25 per set. Asiah Sopo'aga leads the defense with 3.36 digs per set.
  • Toledo leads the all-time series, 1-0 with Idaho State, defeating the Bengals 3-2 in Davis, Calif. on Sept. 3, 2005.
UP NEXT
The Rockets begin MAC play next week at Savage Arena with a pair of home matches against Northern Illinois Sept. 27-28.
