Rockets Defeat Marshall to Sweep Rocket Invitational

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's volleyball team swept Marshall, 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 25-21), Saturday afternoon to complete a sweep of the Rocket Invitational. The three-win weekend moving Toledo's overall record to 6-3.
Three Rockets were named to the All-Tournament Team. Izzy Granger was named tournament MVP while Taylor Alt and Macy Hatkevich earned All-Tournament honors.
Granger earned MVP honors after tallying 14 kills on 24 attempts with one only error on Saturday, earning a career-best .542 hitting percentage. The junior added 14 digs to record her second-straight match for a double-double.
Alt had a team-high 15 kills to go with four digs and two service aces. Hatkevich totaled 20 assists and eight digs, while Ella Abraham added 22 assists of her own. Grace Freiberger poured in a team-high 20 digs on the day.
"That was a fun match to watch and be a part of," said head coach Jason Oliver. "I was so happy the way the team came out with focus and energy to counter Marshall's enthusiasm. We found consistently good play and had a great weekend offensively."

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set One (25-19 Toledo)
- A 6-1 run for the Rockets put the home team ahead, 12-7.
- Two quick kills from Izzy Granger extended the Rockets' lead, 15-8.
- Three quick points for Marshall put the Herd within three, 19-16.
- Terminations from Taylor Alt and Caylee Sharkey secured the set win for Toledo.
- Back-to-back blocks from Anna Alford, including a solo block, put Toledo in front, 7-4.
- A 3-0 surge by the Rockets, led by kills from Ganger and Sharkey, extended the lead, 16-10.
- Marshall used a 5-0 run to get within one, 19-18. Kills from Sharkey and Granger helped the Rockets take a 2-0 set lead.
- Both sides traded points early, but the Rockets were able to take a slight 14-12 edge off kills from Olivia Heitkamp and Alt.
- A 3-0 run from Marshall put the visitors ahead, 17-15, but Toledo responded with a 3-0 run of their own to take an 18-17 lead.
- The Rockets and the Herd traded 3-0 runs, with Marshall taking a slight 21-19 lead.
- Toledo secured the sweep by rattling off a 6-0 scoring run at the end of the set. Throughout the run, Pertzborn and Sharkey combined for a block, Alt and Granger tallied kills and Granger fired off three service aces.
