Toledo Opens 2024 Season against IU Indy, Cincinnati

Rockets host Bearcats on Sunday in home opener following Thursday contest at IU Indy

TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's soccer team begins its second season under Head Coach Mark Batman with a pair of matches this week, opening the season at IU Indy on Thursday, Aug. 15 in Indianapolis followed by the home opener against Cincinnati at Paul Hotmer Field on Sunday, Aug. 18.
 
Thursday's contest will begin at 6:00 p.m., while Sunday's kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. Sunday's matchup will be broadcast on BCSN and streamed on ESPN+. Sunday's contest will also be Senior Day for the Rockets who will honor six seniors before the game – Olivia Dault, Jenna Foley, Alexys LaDue, McKenna Schultz, Miranda Sullivan and Chloe Tadolini.
 
Toledo is coming off of a 7-9-2 overall record in 2023 and a 4-6-1 MAC record. The Rockets improved by five wins and three conference victories from 2022. The season included a four-game winning streak in which Toledo did not concede a goal.

Rocket Returners Rocket Newcomers
  • Toledo added 15 new players to its roster for 2024 – 12 freshmen and three transfers.
  • The transfers include goalkeeper Agnes Stenlund (Niagara), and defenders Tori Lyncha (Xavier) and Dalaney Ranallo (Kent State). Both Lyncha and Ranallo are grad transfers.
  • Ranallo started 64 games with Kent State over the past four seasons, logging over 5,600 minutes with the Golden Flashes. She earned a MAC Defensive Player of the Week honor in 2022 and helped KSU earn four clean sheets in 2023.
  • Lyncha appeared in nine games in her career at Xavier, including eight last season.
  • Stenlund started nine games for Niagara last season and made 52 saves, earning four shutouts and a goals-against average of 0.87. She also played in 14 games and made 10 starts in 2022, adding three more shutouts and making 52 saves that season. She brings over 1,900 minutes of collegiate action and a .800 save percentage to Toledo.
Of Note
  • Toledo's matchup against IU Indy will be the first of three against Horizon League schools. The Rockets will host Detroit Mercy on Aug. 30 and travel to Oakland on Sept. 8.
  • The Rockets went 1-1-1 against Horizon League competition last year, including a 3-0 win over UD and a 2-1 defeat against Oakland.
  • The Rockets will face Cincinnati at home for just the second time ever and the first since 2001. Sunday's game will also mark UT's first home matchup against a Big 12 opponent since Sept. 18, 2011 against Iowa State and its first matchup overall since Aug. 26, 2012 at Texas.
  • Toledo is 0-4-0 in its previous matchups against the Big 12.
  • Toledo was picked eighth among Mid-American Conference coaches in the preseason poll released on Tuesday. Toledo received 50 points in the poll.
  • Western Michigan was picked first with eight first-place votes and 116 overall. Ball State, Bowling Green Kent State, and Ohio each received one first-place vote.
