Rockets prepare for three more races in Lexington on Saturday
LEXINGTON, Ky. - Laura Nicholson qualified for the quarterfinals of the 1,500m to highlight the Toledo women's track & field team at the 2024 NCAA East Regional Championship at Kentucky's Track & Field Complex on Thursday evening.Â
Nicholson finished fourth in her heat with a time of 4:14.81, good for 13th overall to qualify for Saturday's quarterfinal. She will aim for a top 12 finish for a chance to compete in the field of 24 for a national title at the 2024 NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore. next month. Nicholson is looking to join Petronela Simiuc (2021), Stephanie Sherman (2021), and Faith Linga (2022) as Rockets who have competed at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships under Head Coach Andrea Grove-McDonough.Â
Senior Lou Trois also ran the 1,500m and finished ninth in her heat but did not advance.
Freshman Mercy Kinyanjui, who won the 10K race at the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships two weeks ago, ran a 34:14.25 for a 37th-place finish in her first regional race but did not qualify for the national championship.Â
Toledo continues competition in Kentucky on Saturday with senior Vilde Henriksen running in the 3,000m steeplechase at 5:40 p.m. and Kinyanjui running the 5,000m at 8:10 p.m.
