TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo Head Women's Basketball Coach Ginny Boggess announced the addition of two assistant coaches to her staff on Friday. Geoff Lanier will serve as the program's associate head coach, and Jackie Alexander joins the Rockets as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.

The duo brings extensive coaching and recruiting experience to the Glass City. Lanier remains with Boggess after serving with her as an assistant coach at Monmouth last season, while Alexander comes to Toledo after serving as an assistant coach at East Tennessee State. They are the first additions to Boggess' staff since she was named Toledo's head coach on April 9.

Geoff Lanier
Geoff Lanier brings 30 years of collegiate coaching experience to Toledo, having served as an assistant coach at the Division I level, serving at Monmouth, Loyola Maryland, Rutgers, Penn State, Cincinnati, Kent State, Boston College, Ohio and Akron. Last year, he helped Monmouth to a runner-up finish in the Coastal Athletic Association standings with a 22-10 (14-4 CAA) record and a second-round appearance in the WNIT. He also helped coach CAA Sixth Player of the Year Jania Hall, Third Team All-CAA picks Kaci Donovan and Ariana Vanderhoop and All-Defensive Selection Belle Kranbuhl.

"I could not be more thrilled to welcome Geoff, Kim and Madison to our program," Boggess said. "While his resume speaks for itself, Team Toledo will love Geoff's infectious energy. A proven recruiter with experience at the highest levels, his attention to detail in player development and game preparation is second-to-none. Geoff knows my system well and will be a catalyst for our team on the court and in the community."

"My wife Kim, daughter Madison and I could not be more excited about joining the Rocket family!" said Lanier. "I would like to thank Coach Boggess and the Toledo administration for the opportunity to be a part of a program in Toledo women's basketball that has been the gold standard both on and off the court. I'm looking forward to working with Coach Boggess, our staff and student-athletes to continue the tradition of excellence and build upon what is already a great program."

Lanier helped Rutgers to a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances in 2020 and 2021 as an Assistant Coach/Recruiting Coordinator, with the Scarlet Knights posting a 36-14 record across those two seasons. He also brought in a top-10 recruiting class to Piscataway, according to Blue Star Basketball and ESPN in 2020. He saw recruiting success in the Big Ten with Penn State (2018-19) as well, putting together the No. 12 recruiting class in the country in 2018.

With the Bearcats (2016-18), Lanier recruited and coached the 2018 American Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year in IImari'I Thomas and the 2017 AAC Newcomer of the Year in Shanice Johnson. Cincinnati posted back-to-back winning seasons for the first time since 2005 and earned a WNIT berth in 2018. Lanier spent four seasons at Kent State, developing 2017 MAC Player of the Year and the Golden Flashes' all-time leading three-point scorer Larissa Lurken.

In three years in New England, Lanier helped Boston College to two postseason appearances including the 2009 WNIT semifinals. The Golden Eagles also recorded six top-25 victories during those three seasons. Carolyn Swords, the No. 15 overall 2011 WNBA Draft pick by the Chicago Sky, finished her career second in points and rebounds in BC history under Lanier's guidance. He also put together the 11th-ranked recruiting class nationally in 2010.

Lanier, a native of Derby, Conn., is a 1993 graduate of Southern Connecticut State with a bachelor's degree in physical education and later received his master's degree in psychology from Washington College. He and his wife Kim have a daughter Madison.

Lanier's first two assistant coaching stops in Division I were in the MAC at Akron and Ohio. He helped the Bobcats to their largest turnaround in program history in a 20-win season in 2008-09.

Jackie Alexander
Jackie Alexander comes to Toledo after four previous coaching and support roles at East Tennessee State, Eastern Kentucky, Albany and Air Force.

"Jackie is the perfect fit as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Toledo," said Boggess. "She matches my passion for building relationships and creating an elite student-athlete experience. Jackie exemplifies 'iron sharpens iron,' and brings with her a tireless work ethic, elite organizational skills and a genuine love for people. Team Toledo will feel her immediate impact on player development, especially with our perimeter players. I am thrilled to welcome Jackie to our program!"

"I am excited and extremely grateful to join Coach Boggess at the University of Toledo," said Alexander. "Coach Boggess is a proven winner who has a gift for building and sustaining relationships with her players and staff. I am eager to elevate an already established foundation and culture alongside her at Toledo. I cannot wait to get to work on the court and in the community."

Alexander joined ETSU's staff in 2021 as the assistant coach/recruiting coordinator, a group which registered a 21-win turnaround in just two seasons with a 25-10 record (9-5 SoCon) in 2022-23. The Pirates played in the postseason as part of the Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI) and had first-team, second-team and all-defensive conference selections. ETSU followed up that success with another winning season in 2023-24, going 18-12 and 7-7 in league play.

Prior to ETSU, Alexander coached at Eastern Kentucky from 2019-2021, serving as an assistant coach/recruiting coordinator with the Colonels. EKU had the fourth-biggest turnaround in the country from 2018-19 to 2019-20, improving by nine wins from two to 11.

Alexander began her career in women's basketball as the video coordinator for the United States Air Force Academy in the 2017-18 season before serving as the director of basketball operations at Albany in 2018-19. She also served as an interim assistant coach with the Great Danes in 2018.

A native of Broadhead, Ky., Alexander played one season at Army West Point (2010-11) before transferring to the University of the Cumberlands (2011-14), where she was a two-time All-Mid South Conference selection and two-time NAIA Academic All-American. She graduated from Cumberlands in 2014 with a bachelor's degree in biology before earning her master's degree in sport management in 2023.

Following her undergraduate career, Alexander served as an Army officer for three years, reaching the rank of captain. She served at Fort Campbell in Kentucky and was deployed to Iraq while in the Army.
