Rockets Put Up Strong Performances in 800M, 3000M Steeplechase in Day Two of MAC Championships

Toledo wraps up the day in sixth place overall
DEKALB, Ill. – The Toledo women's track & field team saw three runners qualify for the 800m championship and a pair of top-seven finishes in the 3000M steeplechase in day two of the Mid-American Conference Track & Field Championships at the NIU Soccer and Track & Field Complex on Friday.
Toledo currently sits in sixth place with 28.5 points after picking up 8.5 total points from the 3000m steeplechase and the pole vault. Kent State ended the day in first at 51.5 points.
In the 800m prelims, graduate student Laura Nicholson (2:07.99), senior Krystal Clark (2:11.91) and senior Lou Trois (2:09.61) each qualified for Saturday's final. Nicholson broke her league-best time of 2:08.00 entering the championship by .01 seconds to finish first in the prelims.
Freshman Jordyn Wright finished in a four-way tie for sixth place in the pole vault (3.50m), picking up Toledo's first 1.5 points of the day.
To close the day, senior Emily Vining finished fourth (10:26.43) in the 3000m steeplechase while sophomore Lianna Surtz (10:31.66) PRed and finished seventh. The duo combined to earn seven points in the overall standings.
Toledo will begin competition in the third and final day of the MAC Championships at 1:10 p.m. CT (2:10 ET) on Saturday. The Rockets will have four competitors in the 1500m finals, three in the 800m and will also compete in the high jump, 4x100m, 4x400m and 5000m.
