Pawit Sornlaksup remains undefeated in conference play, 21-0 from the top singles court
BUFFALO, NY – Freshman Poonthong Komolpisut clinched match point and senior Pawit Sornlaksup continued his dominating play as the Toledo men's tennis team rolled to a 5-2 victory over Buffalo on Saturday afternoon in the Mid-American Conference opener for both squads.
 Â
Toledo started strong to take a 1-0 match lead after winning the doubles point from the No.1 and 2 courts. Singles competition would not be a walk in the park, as four of the six courts were decided in three sets. No.88 ranked Sornlaksup (No.1) and junior Hanamichi Carvajal (No.3) won their respective courts in two sets to put Toledo at match point.
The Bulls won the first set on the other four courts, but the Rockets each won their second sets to force a third set decider. UB's Theodoros Mitsakos won the No. 4 court, but Komolpisut came back to win the No. 5 spot (4-6, 6-2, 6-3) to clinch the first conference win for the Midnight Blue and Gold. Buffalo won the No. 2 court in a super tiebreaker and sophomore Matias Olivero won the bottom court in a super 6(3)-7, 6-3, 10-8 decision to secure the final court for the Rockets.
Sornlaksup's victory from the top court marked his 21st-straight singles conference win since the 2021-22 season, and overall career singles win No. 69.
Toledo (6-7, 1-0 MAC) will continue MAC play next weekend when it hosts Ball State on Friday, March 15, and Western Michigan on Saturday, March 17, at Shadow Valley Tennis Club.
