Mercy Kinyanjui registers second-fastest time in school history in 5000m
RALEIGH, N.C. – Distance runners Mercy Kinyanjui, Vilde Henriksen, Madeline Vining, Lou Trois, and Krystal Clark all had impressive showings for the Toledo women's track & field team on the second day of elite competition at the Raleigh Relays in Raleigh, NC on Friday.
Kinyanjui clocked a time of 16:01.68 in the 5000m, the second-best time in Toledo history, trailing only the 15:58.93 set by Athena Welsh in 2019. Kinyanjui, who came in 16th place, had the best finish of any runner of any MAC runner in the field. Teammate Madeline Vining also ran a personal best time of 16:20.16 in the 5000m, which put her at No. 8 on Toledo's all-time list.
Henriksen took 14th place in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:26.25, which ranks eighth all-time at UT and was the second-best finish among runners from the Mid-American Conference in the field.
In the 1500m, Trois finished with a time of 4:24.39, the eighth-fastest in Toledo history, though short of her personal best of 4:18.45 set in 2022. Clark posted a personal best time of 4:24.77 in the 1500m, the ninth-best all-time mark for a Rocket. Their times were also the second- and third-best time in the 1500 by any runner in the Mid-American Conference this season, trailing only Eastern Michigan's Paige Marchant, who ran a 4:21.56 in Raleigh on Friday.
Toledo's sprinters, hurdlers, and jumpers will compete Saturday afternoon at the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational in Cincinnati.
