Perfect Game Highlights Toledo's Sweep over Bowling Green

Sophia Knight and Mady Yackee earn combined perfect game in Saturday’s second game in Battle of I-75

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Toledo's Sophia Knight and Mady Yackee combined for a perfect game to cap a sweep for the Rockets in the Battle of I-75 series at Bowling Green on Saturday afternoon. The Rockets won 7-4 in the opener followed by a 12-0 (5 inn.) pounding in the nightcap. The two victories capped a series sweep for Toledo, which defeated the Falcons 8-3 on Friday.

"Every day is a great day to be a Rocket but when it comes to winning the Battle of I-75, it hits a little different," head coach Jessica Bracamonte said. "Could not be more proud of this team top to bottom. There are too many individual highlights to count, but they are all reflected in each of our team wins. It was great to get so many players in the game and watch them have success. Our pitching staff did a great job, our offense made their presence known, and our defense kept us in each game. We are pumped to be added to the list of teams that UT gets to light the UHall Tower blue tonight!"

In today's first game, Toledo broke out four runs in the opening frame and Bowling Green answered with three runs in the first to make it a 4-3 game. The Rockets built up to a 7-4 lead in the sixth, and that would be enough to pick up the win. Junior Kylee Graham (4-5) gave up eight hits for the complete-game victory.

In the nightcap, junior Sophia Knight (9-4) put down all nine batters she faced in three innings, while striking out five batters. Freshman Mady Yackee came into the circle in the fourth, keeping the Falcons off base, including three strikeouts, to end the game in the fifth and mark UT's first perfect game on record. The Rockets scored at least two runs in every inning except the fifth to secure the 12-0, run-rule victory.

For the series, junior Sidney Griffith had a team-high seven hits, including two doubles, and five RBIs. Senior Riley Mohr also drove in five runs, while junior Eli Enriquez was 4-for-4 in stolen base attempts. Knight had a 2.10 ERA and struck out seven batters in 10.0 innings of work to pick up two wins on the weekend.

NOTABLES
  • Senior Jenna Kroll drove in four runs on Saturday, to bring her up to the No. 4 spot in Toledo history with 98 RBIs in her career.
  • Enriquez is up to 22 thefts this season, tied for No. 5 all-time with Jessica Lemieux (2015).
  • Toledo connected on a season-high 17 hits in Saturday's 7-4 opening win.
