CHICAGO, Ill – Freshman
Cole Cozens returned to the win column as he clinched match point in the Toledo men's tennis team's 4-3 win at UIC on Friday afternoon. With the win, the Rockets (8-8, 3-1 MAC) have now won their last eight Mid-American Conference road matches.
After UIC claimed the doubles point, sophomore
Matias Olivero defeated Mihailo Savic in straight sets to even the match at 1-1, his fourth straight win from the bottom court. Freshman
Poonthong Komolpisut swept the No. 5 court and junior
Hanamichi Carvajal put UT at match point with another two-set victory from the No. 2 court. UIC's Edoardo Bottino took the first set 6-2 at the No. 4 court, but Cozens fought back to win the second at 6-4 set and clinched the match in the 6-1 tiebreaker for his first MAC win as a Rocket. The Flames claimed the final court of the afternoon to end the match.
Toledo will continue its four-match road stretch on Sunday at Northern Illinois at 11:00 a.m. in DeKalb, Ill.
