Toledo Opens 2024-25 Track and Field Season at Akron, Grand Valley and Boston

Rockets begin season with split squads going to three different meets
TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's track and field team will begin its indoor season at three meets this weekend. The Rockets will compete at the Akron Haynes Lancaster Open in Akron, Ohio and the Grand Valley State Holiday Invite on Friday, Dec. 6, and the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener in Boston, Mass. on Saturday, Dec. 7.
The Rockets' sprinters and jumpers will be competing at Akron. Three newcomers, freshmen Chloe Pyles and Hailey Slagle and graduate transfer Samantha Thomas, will make their first appearances for Toledo. Nora Hark, a Second-Team All-MAC honoree in 2024, Khamani Jones and Sydney Caddell will also see action.
At Grand Valley, seven runners, including Alex Bauer, Karina James and Aubrey Duhamine, will compete across the 3000m, 3000m invite and the mile.
To wrap up the weekend, Mercy Kinyanjui and Laura Nicholson will see action in the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener in Boston. Kinyanjui will compete in the mile and the 5000m while both Rockets will run the 3000m.
Toledo welcomes five newcomers to the squad, including two transfers and three freshmen. Returning to the squad are 36 student-athletes, including four All-MAC honorees, highlighted by Nicholson and Kinyanjui who earned all-league honors in both the indoor and outdoor seasons.
