Toledo Falls in Four-Set Battle at Bowling Green

Taylor Alt, Izzy Granger record double-figure kills in defeat
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – Toledo Women's Volleyball dropped a hard-fought battle, 3-1 (21-25, 25-22, 18-25, 15-25), at MAC leader Bowling Green on Tuesday night. Despite the loss, the Rockets remain in sixth place within the Mid-American Conference's standings, holding the final spot in the conference tournament.
Taylor Alt paced Toledo's (15-11, 8-6 MAC) offense, recording 16 kills, six digs and two blocks. Six of Alt's 16 terminations came on a .455 clip in the first set.
Junior outside hitter Izzy Granger also finished double-figure in kills, totaling 11 terminations and six digs. Redshirt freshman Sierra Pertzborn recorded a team-high five blocks and added a career-best three service aces to go along with eight kills.
Sophomore setter Macy Hatkevich totaled 36 assists in the match, as well as adding six digs, four kills and three blocks. Freshman libero Grace Freiberger had a team-best 15 digs.
"Bowling Green played inspired volleyball tonight," said head coach Jason Oliver. "I thought we put up a good fight but just didn't have enough consistent play to get them uncomfortable. As a group, we need more inspired play and more fight across the board."
Bowling Green (17-8, 11-3 MAC) was led by Lauryn Hovey with 18 kills.

Toledo wraps up home play as Ball State comes to Savage Arena on Friday-Saturday, Nov. 8-9. First serve on Friday, Nov. 8 is set for 6:00 p.m. with the Saturday, Nov. 9 matchup beginning at 4:00 p.m. Both matches will be streamed on ESPN+.

HOW IT HAPPENED
SET ONE (25-21 Bowling Green)
- Both sides traded early points, but Bowling Green took the lead off a 9-1 run to get ahead, 11-4.
- Toledo cut the lead to four, 11-7, thanks to a block from Olivia Heitkamp and Sierra Pertzborn and a kill from Izzy Granger.
- A 3-0 surge by the Rockets, powered by Taylor Alt's fifth kill of the night and a Pertzborn ace, got Toledo within two, 15-13.
- A solo block from Heitkamp and a Falcons error tied the match, 17-17. The Rockets got in front, 21-20, behind Pertzborn's third kill of the night.
- Bowling Green fired off five consecutive points to take the set win.
- Back-to-back service aces from Pertzborn gave Toledo an early 4-3 advantage.
- The Falcons used three straight points to regain the lead, 9-6.
- Macy Hatkevich and Pertzborn combined on two consecutive blocks to take back the lead, 11-10.
- Toledo took a two-point lead, 17-15, off a kill from Alt. Both teams traded blows and tied the match, 20-20.
- A solo block from Alt put Toledo ahead, 23-22 and forced a Bowling Green timeout. Alt fired off her 13th kill of the match to secure the set win.
- Bowling Green took a quick 6-1 lead early in the set. The Rockets cut the lead to four, 7-3, off a kill from Hatkevich.
- Three straight point from the Falcons back in front, 15-8. Hatkevich's rattled off her fourth kill of the night to get Toledo within seven, 17-10.
- A quick 4-0 run by the Rockets, thanks to kills from Heitkamp, Granger and Pertzborn, got Toledo within five, 23-18.
- The Falcons rattled off a kill and a service ace to take the set victory.
- Both sides traded early points before the Falcons took a slight 6-3 advantage.
- Bowling Green extended their lead to seven, 13-6, off a string of terminations.
- A 4-1 run by the Rockets, highlighted by a kill from Granger and an ace from Alt, got Toledo within four, 18-14.
- The Falcons fired off a 5-0 surge to take the match victory.
