ATHENS, Ohio – The Toledo women's volleyball team fell short in a five-set match to Ohio on Friday night, 3-2.
Taylor Alt led the offense for Toledo (9-7, 2-2 MAC) with 14 kills and 13 digs, recording her fifth double-double of the season and the 41st of her career.
Sierra Pertzborn added 10 kills and four blocks while
Kayla Ozanich tallied nine kills and seven blocks.
Izzy Granger had nine kills and eight digs to go along with three blocks.
Sophomore setter
Macy Hatkevich totaled 36 assists and 16 digs which marks her fourth double-double of the season and 12th of her career. Freshman
Grace Freiberger set a new career-high with 32 digs while junior
Macy Medors added 11 digs on her own.
Ohio (6-8, 2-1 MAC) was led by Kam Hunt with 23 kills.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET ONE (29-27 Ohio)
- An early 4-0 run, thanks to kills from Caylee Sharkey, Izzy Granger and Kayla Ozanich, put the Rockets ahead 6-2.
- Toledo took a 15-10 lead off a kill from Macy Hatkevich while Grace Freiberger kept the lead at five with her first service ace of the night.
- Ohio used a 7-0 run to take their first lead of the set, 23-21.
- A block from Ozanich and Hatkevich tied the match, 23-23. Both sides went back-and-forth and saw five set points before Ohio took the set win off an error.
SET TWO (26-24 Toledo)
- Ohio took a 10-4 lead, but the Rockets responded with a 5-1 run to get within two points, 11-9.
- A solo block from Sharkey helped Toledo knot the frame at 15-all.
- Two consecutive kills from Taylor Alt put Toledo ahead, 21-18.
- Both sides went back-and-forth but errors from the Bobcats secured the set win for Toledo and tied the match, 1-1.
- The second set saw 10 ties and four lead changes.
SET THREE (28-26 Toledo)
- The Bobcats jumped out to a 4-2 lead, but Toledo later responded with five points to take a 9-6 advantage.
- Four consecutive points from Ohio put the host team back in front, 12-10.
- The Rockets used a 5-0 run to regain the lead, 16-13.
- Two kills from Granger put Toledo in front, 22-20. The teams traded points, but an Ohio error and a kill from Alt gave the Rockets a 2-1 lead.
SET FOUR (25-14 Ohio)
- Ohio took an early 5-0 lead, but Toledo got within two, 6-4, off a block from Sierra Pertzborn and Sharkey.
- A four-point run by the Bobcats put Ohio ahead, 17-9.
- The Rockets got within six points, but Ohio took the set point off a service error to force a fifth set.
SET FIVE (15-12 Ohio)
- Ohio rattled off three-straight points for a quick 6-3 lead.
- A solo block and two aces from Granger tied the set, 9-9, before a block from Alt and Ozanich gave Toledo a 10-9 lead.
- Ohio used a 3-0 run to take a 13-11 lead and took the match win off a kill.
