Rockets looking for first championship in program history
TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo men's cross country team is looking to make history as it attempts to win its first-ever Mid-American Conference Championship title this Saturday, Nov. 2 at the Ball State Cross Country Course in Muncie, Ind. The 8K race is set to kick off at 12:00 p.m.
Toledo's best finishes have come as conference runner-up in each of the last three seasons. Senior Dennis Mutai became the first Toledo men's cross country runner to take home the individual championship at last year's meet while coach Tito Medrano was named MAC Men's Coach of the Year, the first Toledo men's coach to do so.
The Rockets return a core group of runners which includes 2023 First Team All-MAC selection Mutai, 2023 Second Team All-MAC honoree Geoff Howles, and junior Joshuah Taylor. The team also has three underclassmen who have helped elevate the lineup this season, including sophomore Joad Martinho and freshmen Dominic Serem and Loann Brelivet.
Serem has paced the squad, recording a first-place finish in the MAC Championship Preview (Sept. 14), a ninth-place finish in the Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invitational (Oct. 4) and third-place position at the Princeton Fall Classic (Oct. 18).
Martinho has tallied a second-place finish in the MAC Championship Preview, 18th at the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational and took 43rd at the Princeton Fall Classic. Brelivet took fourth place at the MAC Championship Preview and secured an 85th-place finish at the Princeton Fall Classic.
Toledo placed first at the MAC Championship Preview meet on Sept. 14 while getting within the top-15 at its other two team-scored meets of the season, the Sean Earl Loyola Lakefront Invitational and the Princeton Fall Classic.
UP NEXT
The Rockets will continue the championship portion of their season with the NCAA Great Lakes Regional in Akron, Ohio on Friday, Nov. 15.
