HAMILTON, Ohio – The Toledo women's tennis team concluded play at the Mid-American Conference Individual Fall Championships at the Riverside Athletic Club in Hamilton, Ohio on Sunday.
Freshman
Jacklynka Scholten earned her first wins over conference opponents on her way to the semifinals of the singles draw. Scholten defeated Western Michigan's Lola Glantz and Bowling Green's Tia Clemens in straight sets en route to being the lone freshman left in the event. The Arlington, Va. native fell to eventual champion Catherine Denysiewicz from Miami in the semifinal round.
Sophomore
Gaby Rondon took down Audrey Smitek from Western Michigan in the first round before dropping a straight-set match to Ball State's Annika Planinsek in the second round.
Scholten and Rondon participated in doubles play, taking down Northern Illinois' Erika Dimitriev and Nataly Miroslavova Ninova in the first round. The Rocket duo fell to doubles play champions Emilia Valentinsson and Sara Zalukar from Miami.
"I'm really proud of the way Gaby and JJ represented Toledo at the MAC Fall Individual Championship," said Head Coach
Tracy Mauntler. "This was an event with mostly juniors and seniors, so I really thought we competed well against experienced competition."
UP NEXT
Toledo will wrap up their fall slate as they host the Rocket Indoor Invitational on Nov. 1-2 at Twos Athletic Club.
