Toledo’s Distance Runners Have Another Strong Performance at Michigan Invitational

Laura Nicholson claims the crown in the mile in Ann Arbor
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Laura Nicholson won the mile for the second time this season to lead the Toledo women's track & field team on the second day of the Michigan Invitational in Ann Arbor on Saturday.
Toledo had multiple strong showings in the running events as three Rockets recorded national top 100 times in the mile. Nicholson's time of 4:37.92 ranks third in Toledo's history and is the 16th-best time in the nation this year. Also making personal and national strides was sophomore Lianna Surtz, who finished ninth with a PR of 4:45.28 (NCAA #57). Senior Vilde Henriksen, who finished 13th, crossed the line at 4:47.76, which ranks 80th among NCAA indoor times. Freshman Mercy Kinyanjui finished 15th in her first race in a Midnight Blue & Gold uniform, and sophomore Ella Kurto also ran a PR time of 5:12.07.
Sophomores Khamani Jones and Laryah Worthy ran their season-best times in the 400m, finishing 13th and 18th respectively. Also recording season-best times were Margrett Watt in the 800m and Jimesha Ragland in the 200m. The three Rockets in the 3000m race stayed close together, headed by junior Morgan Hicks (11th), senior Emily Vining (15th), and junior Olivia Gang (17th).
Toledo's 4x400m relay team closed the weekend with a seventh-place finish and a season-best time of 4:01.93.
In the field events, junior Sydney Caddell had the strongest performance with a ninth-place result of 9.57 meters in the triple jump.
Toledo will split time next weekend at Akron's Invitational in Akron, Ohio, and Notre Dame's Meyo Invitational in South Bend, Ind.
