Senior Julia Kuszynski clinches the first match of the season for the Rockets from the No. 6 court

MIAMISBURG, Ohio – Senior Julia Kuszynski clinched the 4-3 match point for the Toledo women's tennis team against Dayton on Friday evening, giving the Rockets a victory in their first dual match of the season.

Kuszynski, senior Cassie Alcala, and freshman Gaby Rondon all started their season with two-set victories. Alcala's singles win at the No.1 court was the 83^rd of her career, tops in Toledo history. Rondon trailed in both sets from the No. 5 court and fought back to win in straight sets for her first collegiate win, and Kuszynski came in with the clincher at the No. 6 court.

UT won all three doubles courts to take a 1-0 match lead into singles play.

"This match was pretty ugly, but that's normal this early in the season," head coach Tracy Mauntler said. "Making mistakes is all part of the process. Cassie and Julia played like seniors and did a great job of leading the team. I was proud of Gaby in her first college match. She was down 1-4 in both the first and second sets and came back in both."

The Rockets' win is their fourth straight over the Flyers and first since 2011.

Toledo (1-0) continues its season-opening weekend tomorrow afternoon vs. Xavier (1-1) at 4:30 p.m. in Cincinnati.
