Rockets visiting No. 2 Ohio State on Wednesday, Penn State on Friday, and Temple on Saturday
TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo men's tennis team will play three more road matches this week to close out its seven-match road swing to open its 2024 season. Toledo will visit No. 2 Ohio State on Wednesday night, and then head to University Park, Pa., to play Penn State on Friday evening and Temple on Saturday afternoon.
"I don't have enough adjectives to describe Ohio State's program and their high level of play," head coach Al Wermer said. "I always appreciate the intensity and professionalism they bring to the table. Every year our guys take a lot away from this match, which is very beneficial."
Last Time on the Court
Toledo (2-2, 0-0 MAC) went 2-1 last weekend, falling to Illinois on Saturday before posting back-to-back victories over Butler and IUPUI on Sunday. Senior Pawit Sornlaksup was the only Rocket to win a set vs. Illinois, a 7-5 first set victory vs. No. 17 Kenta Miyoshi on the No. 1 court. Sornlaksup, ranked No. 68 in the country, was ahead 1-0 in the second set before the match was called. The following afternoon, Sornlaksup tied the match 1-1 with a two-set victory against Butler, extending his singles winning streak to 45 straight matches.
Highlighting the Rockets' 4-3 win over the Bulldogs was junior Hanamichi Carvajal's first win as a Rocket and a clinching point from sophomore Matias Olivero. Toledo then swept IUPUI 5-0 to finish out the weekend, with freshman Chile Snow and Olivero finishing their matches to help Toledo secure its second win of the day at 5-0.

Sornlaksup began his school-record 45-match winning streak in dual competition in January 2022. He is tied with Chris Clark (2005-08) at No. 5 on UT's all-time victory list with 63 wins, two behind UT Hall of Famer Stjepan Sisko (2014-17).
