Lauren Kilgore Named MAC Female Scholar-Athlete of Week for First Time

TOLEDO, Ohio – Toledo's Lauren Kilgore earned her first academic honor of the year by being named the Mid-American Conference Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week. Kilgore won three events, set the 200 IM pool record, and had two season-best swims in Toledo's victory over Indianapolis last Saturday.

A Niles, Mich. native, Kilgore set the bar high in the first dual meet of the year. She won the 100 freestyle with a 50.44 touch time, which ranks eighth in UT history. She followed that with a first-place finish in the 200 IM, setting the pool record now at 2:02.88 and replacing a record that was set in 2003 by UM's Margrett Kelly. Kilgore was also part of UT's 200 medley relay team that opened the meet with a first-place finish.

The MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. Each week, schools are asked to nominate one male and one female among their varsity teams that are in season at the time. The winner is selected by a group of conference faculty athletic representatives.

Kilgore, a fifth-year senior, is pursuing a Doctorate in Pharmacy and has a 3.941 undergrad and 3.933 graduate GPA.

Toledo will return to action this weekend at Ball State on Saturday, Jan. 20 in Muncie, Ind.
