TOLEDO, Ohio - Former Rocket AJ Edu has signed a contract to play for the Toyama Grouses in the Japan Basketball League, the team announced today

"I'm really excited to begin my professional basketball journey at Toyama Grouses," Edu said. "I'm looking forward to meeting all the staff, players, and fans and giving my best on the court!"

Edu played in all 35 games in the 2022-23 campaign and helped the Rockets become the only current Mid-American Conference program to win three-consecutive outright league titles. Edu ranked second on the team with 28 blocked shots and averaged 2.8 ppg and 3.0 rpg with a 49.2 FG%.

After earning a spot on the 2018-19 All-MAC Freshman Team, Edu played just four games in the 2019-20, 2020-21 and 2021-22 season due to knee injuries.

The Colchester, England native earned his bachelor's degree in accounting in 2021 and his MBA in administration this spring.

Edu is also part of a Philippine national team pool for the 2023 FIBA World Cup. He previously competed for the Philippines in the 2019 FIBA World Cup.
