Sophomore Yedam Lee receives team's Lowest Stroke Average Award
TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo women's golf program honored seniors Kathryn Roth and Claudia Sampson and handed out awards at their annual post-season banquet on Sunday evening.
Â
"Celebrating our seniors was a special moment for all of us last night," Head Coach Jenny Coluccio said. "Claudia and Kathryn have brought energy, hard work, and joy every day to our program. Who they are has helped elevate what we do as a program and our culture. Four years have gone by in a flash, and it is impossible to summarize it all in one evening. We look forward to their new roles as alumni. Once a Rocket, always a Rocket!"
Â
Coluccio also expressed happiness with the progress her squad made throughout the season. The Rockets set a school 54-hole record, posted two of the Top 10 rounds in program history and improved their stroke average from the fall to the spring by four strokes.
Â
"Changing our record book is special and this year there were a lot of additions, most notably a new 54-hole record," Coluccio said. "Setting records takes everyone buying into what we are doing and where this program is going. This group of young women is special, and they are all in!"
Â
Sophomore Yedam Lee received the Low Stroke Average award with her career-best 75.8 mark, highlighted by a 73.7 average in the spring. Lee received her second Mid-American Conference Golfer of the Week honor after winning her first career tournament at the Tchefuncta Invitational. In that event, Lee shot a career-low five-under par 208. She also shot a three-under par score on three difference occasions.
Â
Junior Macy Hanus earned Most Improved Year-to-Year Award by dropping her stroke average by 5.1 shots from the 2021-22 campaign with a 76.7 mark this season. She tied her best finish as a Rocket by tying for 11th place at the Rocket Classic. Hanus also recorded a career-best 54-hole total with a seven-over par 223 at the Falcon Florida Classic.
Â
Junior Cheryl Hong received the Most Improved Fall-to-Spring Award by lowering her stroke average by 7.1 shots in the fall to spring seasons. She registered a 78.7 stroke mark in the spring for her lowest semester average of her career. Hong also fired a career-low one-under par 71 at the Falcon Florida Classic.
Â
Junior Kaitlyn Natividad was voted by her teammates as the recipient of the Sarah Award. The Sarah Award was created in honor of former Rocket Saranlak Tumfong, who passed away two years following a battle with leukemia. Below is a description of the award.
Sarah took pride in everything she put her mind to, was competitive, and was driven to be her best. She brought all her effort and energy each day and made it a point to lift her teammates up or help them along when they needed it. She was determined to find joy in everything she did, even on the most challenging days. Â
Â
This teammate sees opportunity in the face of a challenge. She is a loyal, loving, competitive, and caring teammate. She exudes positive energy and holds her teammates accountable respectfully. She also connects well with her teammates outside of golf and celebrates others' successes. Â
