Rockets Move Up Three Spots into Sixth Place at MAC Championships

Junior Barend Botha and senior Palmer Yenrick each in Top 10 after 36 holes
ATHENS, Ala. – Junior Barend Botha and senior Palmer Yenrick each fired two-under par 70s on Monday to pace the Toledo men's golf team in the second round of the 2023 Mid-American Conference Championships. The Rockets improved their team score by 16 strokes from the opening round by carding a two-under 286 to put them in sixth place after 36 holes.
Toledo (588) trails first-place Northern Illinois (574) by 14 shots after the Huskies registered an impressive nine-under par 279 in today's play. Ball State (581) is seven shots behind NIU at five-over par, while six-time defending champion Kent State (584) and Miami (584) trail by 10 strokes.
Individually, Botha is tied for sixth place at one-under par 143 (73-70), while Yenrick is tied for eighth place with an even-par 144 (74-70). The duo each birdied the 18th hole to build momentum for tomorrow's final round.
Botha is within two shots of co-leaders Tommy Dunsire (NIU) and Jeffrey Andrus (CMU), who are tied for first place at three-under par 141. Yenrick is just three strokes out of the lead.
Senior NJ Botha is tied for 28th place at six-over par 150 (76-74), while junior Jamie Tofte Nielsen is tied for 32nd place at seven-over par 151 (77-72) after shooting even-par today. Â Freshman Mason Deal carded a three-over par 75 as a substitute for today's round.
Toledo's first tee time for Round 3 will be at 9:50 a.m. ET.  Live coverage will begin at 12:30 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
