Senior Amelia Lee leads way in final round with two-over par 74
KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Toledo women's golf team shot its best round of the tournament in chilly conditions and moved up one spot in Sunday's final round to finish fifth at the 2023 Mid-American Conference Championships. The Rockets' 18-hole score of 305 was five shots better than their opening-round 310 at the par-72, 6,011-yard Kalamazoo Country Club.
"Our goal was to come out today and play more aggressively and take risks," Head Coach Jenny Coluccio said. "We knew there would be moments that it wouldn't pay off, but taking the risk was important to creating scoring opportunities. Overall the ladies were more gritty in their mentality today in not letting situations escalate. Our finishing holes were a difference maker as well and we knew we needed to make the most of them.
Senior Amelia Lee (80-79-74) posted UT's best round of the day with a two-over par 74 to finish tied for 19th place with sophomore Yedam Lee (75-80-78) at 17-over par 233.
Junior Angel Hii tied for 22nd place at 18-over par 234 after registering her third consecutive a78. Junior Macy Hanus tied for 24th place at 19-over par 235 (77-81-77), while junior Cheryl Hong tied for 34th place at 24-over par 240 (86-78-76).
"Angel did a great job and collecting herself after her rough start and really brought the energy for the final part of her round," Coluccio said. "Cheryl came out with a lot intention after her first round. I'm proud of how she responded and really made an impact for us."
Kent State captured the tournament title for the 24th consecutive season with an 11-over par 875 after shooting an impressive nine-under 279 today. The Golden Flashes' Leon Takagi earned medalist honors with a one-under par 215.
