TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's track & field team continues its 2023 outdoor season at the Jesse Owens Track Classic, hosted by Ohio State, this Friday-Saturday, April 21-22. Friday's action from Columbus will start at 1:00 p.m., with events to continue at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.

The Rockets split their time between two meets last weekend, combining for 16 personal-bests over three days of action. The distance runners competed at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa, Calif., with Madeline Vining and Joy Chirchir rewriting the Toledo record book in the 10,000m on Thursday. Vining placed 16th with a time of 34:03.57 while Chirchir finished 22nd with a time of 34.20.31. Those times are the fifth- and seventh-fastest outdoor times in Rocket history. Morgan Hicks placed third in the 5000m Open A race on Friday, posting a personal-best time of 16:40.96. Lou Trois led the 1500m runners on Saturday with a 4:24.90 time, the fastest by a Rocket this season.

The rest of the team attended the Tiffin Track Carnival on Friday and Saturday, posting nine top-five finishes. The Rockets placed second in four events, led by Sydney Caddell in Friday's and Saturday's long jump competitions. The sophomore recorded a personal-best mark of 5.64m in the event on Friday. She followed up Friday's performance with another PR on Saturday, reaching a distance of 5.67m. Amara Okpalaoka placed second in the triple jump with an 11.50m mark, and Alexia Moehling finished runner-up in the 100H with a finals time of 14.22.

Four members of the Toledo men's cross country team competed in the 1500m Championship in Tiffin on Friday. Cooper Losey led the way for the Rockets with a fourth-place finish, crossing the finish line at 3:51.54. Dennis Mutai won the 5000m Invite at Bucknell's Bison Outdoor Classic on Saturday, posting a time of 14:00.78.

The Rockets' 10,000m group made its first appearance in the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) #EventSquad rankings on Monday, receiving a No. 11 ranking in the nation.
