Junior Barend Botha ties for sixth place to notch third consecutive Top 10 finish

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Junior Barend Botha registered his third-straight Top 10 finish on Tuesday to lead the Toledo men's golf team to a fourth-place showing at the RedHawk Intercollegiate. The Rockets recorded a 29-over par 881 at the par-71, 6,827-yard Pittsburgh Field Club to finish just nine strokes behind tournament champion Marquette.

Botha tied for sixth place in the individual standings at three-over par 216, trailing co-medalists Cole Ekert (Richmond) and Nate Adams (North Dakota State) by four shots. After playing his opening nine holes at three-over par, Botha rebounded on the back nine by registering an eagle and two birdies to finish at one-over par 72.

Junior Jamie Tofte Nielsen carded the Rockets' best round of the day with an even-par 71 and tied for 42nd place at 227 (81-75-71).

Senior Palmer Yenrick tied for 16th place with an eight-over par 221 (72-75-74) and was followed by sophomore Jamie Butler (T-34th/75-74-76=225) and senior NJ Botha (T-38th/73-77-76=226).

Freshman Mason Deal competed as an individual and tied for 29th place with an 11-over par 224 (73-73-78).

The Rockets will now begin preparation for the 2023 Mid-American Conference Championships on Sunday, April 30-Tuesday, May 2. The 54-hole event will be held at the Canebrake Club in Athens, Ala.
