Toledo will compete at Bearcats’ Gettler Stadium this Saturday
TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo women's track & field team will compete in its second outdoor meet of the season on Saturday, April 1, at the Cincinnati-hosted Oliver Nikoloff Invitational. Fans can watch Saturday's competition on the Bearcats' YouTube channel, with field events to begin at 10:00 a.m. and running events starting at 12:20 p.m.
The Midnight Blue and Gold will be represented by 20 athletes from the women's track & field team and eight members of the Toledo men's cross country team.
The Rockets opened their outdoor season last weekend at the Raleigh Relays, hosted by NC State. Toledo posted two top-10 times in school history at the meet while also adding two personal bests. Sophomore Joy Chirchir (16:21.90) recorded the fifth-fastest 5,000m time in school history to finish 24th, while freshman Karina James placed 40th in the 1,500m with a time of 4:25.84. James' time ranks eighth on the all-time outdoor top-10 list. Sophomore Morgan Hicks recorded a personal-best time of 16:55.04 in the 5,000m, and freshman Lianna Surtz also notched a PR in the 800m with a time of 2:14.84.
The US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its first rankings of the outdoor track & field season on Monday, ranking the Rockets at No. 18 in the Great Lakes Region with 100.70 points.
