TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo men's tennis team notched its second win over Ball State this season, a 4-3 decision on Friday at Shadow Valley Tennis Club.  Junior
Pawit Sornlaksup clinched match point for the Rockets from the No. 1 court for his 37
th-straight singles victory and helped the Rockets improveto 12-5, 4-2 in conference play.
"We have to reconcile that pretty much all MAC matches with be a three and a half hour blast furnace," head Coach
Al Wermer said. "Today was another example of that."
Sornlaksup had to go to three sets vs. BSU's Nate Webster to clinch the Rocket victory. He lost the first set in a 7-6(5) battle, swept the second set 6-0, and clinched match point at 6-3. The win marked his 37
th straight victory going back to January of 2022 and also was his 19
th-straight win against conference opponents in dual-match competition going back to March of 2022.
Toledo secured the doubles point, and then
Krzysztof Wetoszka and
Adam Kovac won the first two singles matches to give the Rockets a 3-0 match lead . Wetoszka's triumph improved his winning streak to nine matches from the No. 2 court and nine matches in conference play since last April. Kovac's win was his third-straight.
Ball State threatened with back-to-back wins from the No. 6 and No. 4 courts, until Sornlaksup clinched the match from the top court. The Cardinals won the final point from the No. 5 court.
Toledo will be on the road for its next two matches next weekend. The Rockets will visit Northern Illinois on Friday, Aril 8 before heading to Western Michigan on Sunday, April 9.
