ORLANDO, Fla. – The Toledo softball team ended its spring break trip with a 7-6 win over Kennesaw State on Sunday afternoon in Orlando, Fla. The Rockets went 3-2 in their final weekend of non-conference play.
Senior
Erin Hunt went the distance against KSU, striking out 10 batters for her fifth win of the season. Junior
Jenna Kroll and seniorÂ
Lily Beyer each knocked in a pair of runs, while junior
Lauren Erickson hit a solo homer, her third of the season.
Toledo held a 4-1 lead going into the top of sixth inning when Kennesaw tied it up with three runs. Toledo regained the lead, 7-4, when Beyer hit a two-run triple, then scored on a ground out. The Owls scored two unearned runs with two outs in the top of the seventh but Hunt sealed the victory with a strikeout.
"I am proud of the way we competed this weekend," head coach Jessica Bracamonte said. "Our offense is finding their rhythm and giving our pitchers room to make some mistakes in the circle and still find ways to win. Sophia did a great job setting the tone for the weekend in game one with the win against Penn. The team used that momentum  to come together for a strong weekend overall. Our goal is always to learn and build so we are looking forward to taking what we've learned to work on this week at practice and building on our strength heading into conference next weekend."
Toledo (7-11) will open Mid-American Conference play in its home opener vs. Bowling Green on Friday, March 17 at 3:00 p.m.
