RayJ Dennis Named MAC Male Scholar-Athlete of Week

Junior guard possesses a 3.197 GPA and averaged team-high 23.5 ppg and 7.0 apg last week
TOLEDO, Ohio - Junior guard RayJ Dennis of the Toledo men's basketball team was named the Mid-American Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week by the league office today. Dennis is being honored for the first time in his career and currently holds a 3.197 grade-point average as a University Studies major.
A Plainfield, Ill. native, Dennis helped Toledo extend its winning streak to seven games last week by averaging a team-high 23.5 ppg and 7.0 apg in wins over Miami and Central Michigan. Dennis also was extremely efficient shooting the ball with a 59.4 FG% (19-of-32) and 44.4 three-point FG% (4-of-9).
Dennis opened the week by tying his career high with 29 points and dishing out six assists in an 81-78 win over the RedHawks. He took control down the stretch by scoring 14 of the Rockets' final 17 points.
Dennis then tied for the team lead in scoring with 18 points while registering eight assists in just 28 minutes in an 84-59 win over the Chippewas.
Toledo (18-6, 9-2 MAC) will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 11 with a trip to Ypsilanti, Mich. to face Eastern Michigan (6-18, 3-8 MAC).
The MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. Each week schools are asked to nominate one female and one male among the sports that are in season at the time. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
