TOLEDO, Ohio – The Toledo men's tennis team will play its final non-conference match this season vs. Big Ten opponent Purdue on Sunday afternoon in the Schwartz Tennis Center in West Lafayette, Ind..
Sunday's match will be the last match for the Rockets before they head down to Orlando, Fla. to host its alumni event at the USTA National Campus the weekend of March 4. Upon their return, UT will begin conference play at Ball State on Saturday, March 11.
"We have one more chance at a non-conference win and another road win," said head coach
Al Wermer. "I'm sure Purdue will create a huge challenge in their building."
About the Rockets
Toledo picked up two wins vs. Duquesne (7-0) and Chicago State (5-2) on Feb. 17 to keep its home record perfect at 5-0 and improve to 7-3 overall this season.
Pawit Sornlaksup defended the No. 1 court for the 30th-straight time since last January, as he defeated Kaipo Marshall (DU) and Pedro Alvarez (Chicago St.) in two sets. Sornlaksup also earned his second MAC Singles Player of the Week honor, his second this season, prior to Friday's match after winning three matches in four days on Feb. 9-12.
About Purdue
Purdue has lost its last four matches, most recently a 4-3 decision to Ball State on Feb. 15. The Boilermakers are 1-7 heading into this week of competition, and their only win came from a 5-2 final vs. IUPUI on Jan. 28.
Purdue will host Xavier on Friday afternoon before taking the court vs. Toledo on Sunday afternoon.
